Before
The homeowners were ready to remove their tired lawn and overgrown shrubs. They wanted an all season, colorful, bird friendly entry garden.

Design
We first wanted to address the awkward sharp turns in the existing pathway. For plants, we focused on colorful evergreen plants to provide structure, and added a succesion of bright blooming perennials for color all year around.

Tear Out
We began by tearing out the lawn and leveling the space. Next step was to install the stone, path, and the first layer of gravel.

Install
With the hardscape finished, an irrigation contractor could dig trenches and lay the initial irrigation framework. We amended the soil with organic compost, then planted. The irrigation was finalized after planting, then we top dressed the plantings with more organic compost for nutrients and mulch.

One Year Later
We planted this garden in May. The first year in a new garden can be slow. Plants first need to settle and grow roots before they grow on top. By June of the following year, this garden was filling in and showing off.

Four Years Later
The garden has matured beautifully. We maintenace here about 8-16 hours per month, depending on the season. That time includes maintenance of their backyard garden.
